Burleson - Alta Lee Mann Elder, devoted wife, mother, and friend won her battle over cancer on July 20, 2008 as she peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior with her loving family at her side. Funeral: 2:00 P.M. Friday July 25, 2008 at Lane Prairie Baptist Church in Joshua. Interment: Caddo Cemetery in Joshua. Visitation: 7-9 P.M. Thursday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Lee was born on October 29, 1930 in Valley Mills, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Mann. She had a happy and fulfilling childhood enjoying her school years through graduation from Valley Mills High School. Following graduation from North Texas State University and marriage, she and her husband Amos began their teaching careers. She valued her various teaching positions, but always put her family first. Lee taught special needs children for a portion of her teaching years, was an active church member, community service volunteer, and served as leader or sponsor for various scout groups, school, and church activities, leaving a lasting impact and fond memories for all those that knew her. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, and found joy in painting landscapes, placing her seagull signature on most of them. Her legacy of caring was demonstrated through many cards of encouragement and unselfish gifts of love and appreciation, and endearing dedication to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother and sister-in-law Barnett and Patsy Mann. Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Amos Elder; five children: daughters Kathy Beasley and husband Stephen of Dauphin Island, Alabama, Karen Crow of Fort Worth, Konnie Peacock and husband Jay of Cleburne; sons Kerry Elder and wife Larissa of Rio Vista, Kelly Elder and wife Susan of Rowlett; sister Dolores Mayfield and husband Robert of Tulsa, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members, and countless treasured friends.
