Barbara Hitchcock

Barbara Anne Hunt Hitchcock went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 13, 2023, at the age of 86. Barbara Anne was born February 3, 1937, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and was adopted at the age of three by Donald P. and Rose Hunt of Bedford, Pennsylvania.
Barbara graduated from nursing school at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Maryland in 1958 and worked on the surgical unit. She then married the love of her life George Marshall Hitchcock on June 10, 1960. After getting married they moved to Florida where George finished school and Barbara pursued her nursing career. Nursing was her passion, and she had many accomplishments throughout her career. She worked at Hope Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, Assistant Director of Nursing at Munroe Regional Medical Center where she oversaw the emergency room, and then the education department where she was instrumental in helping to put together the EMT to Paramedic training program at Central Florida Community College and taught classes with the University of Florida at Shands Hospital. Barbara was also a successful business woman opening her own business called "Hitchcock CPR." She was instrumental in starting the parish nursing program which took nursing out to communities of faith. In 1992 she was on the Florida Emergency Response Team that was called to Hurricane Andrew during which time she significantly impacted many lives.
Barbara and George were very involved in the Maricamp Road Church of Christ where he served as an elder. They both enjoyed sharing their faith in Jesus Christ with others and loved to have dinner parties and entertain friends where Barbara always set a beautiful table using her china. She was a sports fan,
loved anything chocolate especially milkshakes with no whipped cream on top! She could remember her high school cheers from when she was a cheerleader and loved her annual reunions with her "girls" and Hunt reunions in Pennsylvania. Barbara was always up early and dressed so she could be ready to go at a moment's notice. She was the ultimate planner and organizer.
Barbara moved to Texas and became a "snowbird" traveling to and from Bedford, Pennsylvania with her cat "Charlie." She kept an energetic lifestyle with her hobbies of antiquing, walking with friends, trips with her high school classmates, attending theatrical performances and church involvement; however, Barbara's passion was her family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Dr. George Marshall Hitchcock, Jr., and her parents Donald P. and Rose Hunt. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children George Marshall "Mark" Hitchcock III (Jessica), and Julie Ann Hitchcock Hillis; her grandchildren Patricia Orders (Joseph), Craig "Rezzy" Hitchcock (Morgan), Kevin and Nicole Hitchcock, Wil, Jordan, and Kendall Hillis; her great grandchildren Audra Marie, Joanna Elise, and Zachary Samuel Orders, and Elizabeth Blum Hitchcock.
