BURLESON -- Barney Joe Briley, 73, of Burleson, a retired electrician and diesel supervisor for Union Pacific Railroad, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, in Fort Worth, surrounded by his family. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Thursday in Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Longview. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Burleson. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Barney was born April 26, 1934, in Jefferson, one of five children of Charles and Ida Pollack Briley. While serving in the U.S. Air Force, he met and married Nelda McGinnis. They were united in marriage June 13, 1953, in Longview. Barney was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad and retired after 40 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Burleson. Survivors: Wife of 54 years, Nelda; sons, Joe Briley and wife, Carmen, and Tony Briley and wife, Annie Lou; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many other family members.
