Betty J. Brooks

d. January 9, 2012

FORT WORTH -- Betty J. Brooks passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at the age of 80 at her home in Fort Worth after a long battle with COPD. Memorial service: 4 p.m. Thursday at Arborlawn United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. A reception will follow from 5 to 7 p.m. at Colonial Country Club. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cook Children's Hospital - Cards For Kids, 801 Seventh Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76104. Betty was born in Hood County and moved to Fort Worth at an early age. She met and married Bill Brooks in 1958. They raised two daughters, Kelly Keller and Tracey Brooks. Betty was an active volunteer with Cook Children's Hospital and was elected to the Woman's Board in 1967. After 6,500 hours, she was honored as Woman's Board Volunteer of the Year for 2005. She volunteered in many areas and helped open the first library at the hospital. Her great passion was Cards for Kids and if you worked in Fort Worth, she probably knocked on your office door to sell you Christmas cards! Betty was a member of Jewel Charity, The Bon Vivant Gourmet Club, The Garden Club, Fort Worth Symphony League and Colonial Country Club. Betty was very creative, a talented artist and a hard worker. Her endurance and perseverance was evident in all she did. She was a caring mother, doting grandmother, thoughtful friend and loyal spouse. She will be missed by all who knew her. We give special thanks to her longtime friend and caregiver, Susie Lopez, and the loving caregivers who helped Betty the last year of her life, Sylvia James, Dede Johnson and Tanya Hill. They loved her like their own mother and words can not express our appreciation. Survivors: Husband, Bill R. Brooks; daughters, Kelly Keller and Tracey Brooks; son-in-law, Robert Keller; and grandchildren, Brooks Keller, Sarah Keller and Ali Thorburn.
