Our dear Mother, Betty Jean Steele Thiebaud went to heaven peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family Sunday morning, July 10th, 2022. Mother was born on September 24th, 1935 to Hickmon and Pauline Steele. She grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and Fort Worth, Texas. Mom was recognized in her preteen years as a vocal prodigy and began to pursue a career in that field. She performed on the nationally broadcast TV show, The Ted Mack Amatuer Hour as well as local and regional broadcasts all through her prep and high school years. As she began to be ‘known’ she sang on sessions with many artists including the Everly Brothers and Pat Boone. She attended and was a standout student at Paschal High School where she was involved in many groups and liberal arts. She met and married Glyn Wayne Thiebaud, her husband and best friend for 68 years on November 24th, 1954 and immediately gave up her pursuit of a musical career to devote her time to being a wife and mother.
Our Mother is the reason that none of us have ever been intimidated by anything. She constantly told us we could do or be anything we want to do or be and we believed her. She attended every sporting, school and social event the four of us were engaged in while at the same time being a meticulous housekeeper and wonderful cook. We had three full course, made from scratch meals every day including dessert. She was a fierce defender of her children and devoted to our Dad. She was the female soloist at our church and would still perform professionally on occasion. She had an INCREDIBLE voice and range. Her work ethic was spectacular.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Glyn Wayne Thiebaud, her mother, Pauline Steele and her father, Hickmon Steele. She is survived by her sons, Jack, Ross and Clifton Thiebaud and her daughter Sunnie Rae Hamilton, 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. We love you Mom and we miss you but we know we will see you up there.
In honor of Betty Thiebaud the family is requesting red roses and yellow balloons to be sent to the funeral home or brought to the service. It was Betty's wish to have her funeral decorated in red roses and yellow balloons.
