JOSHUA -- Billie Joe Newsome, 86, of Joshua, a retired rancher and carpenter, died Saturday Sept. 20, 2008, in Fort Worth. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Monday in Union Hill Cemetery in Joshua. Billie Joe Newsome was born July 7, 1922, in Kopperl to Calvin and Eva Robinson Newsome. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater with the 84th Division Company A-309 Combat Engineers. He also fought at the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He married Dorothy Day on Feb. 23 1952, in Fort Worth. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1975. He married Maxine Baty on Jan. 7, 1984, in Waxahachie. She also preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 2003. After the war his carpentry skills were instrumental in developing many Fort Worth neighborhoods. He then retired as a rancher in Joshua, raising registered paint horses and longhorn cattle. He was a 62-year Mason with the Kopperl Masonic Lodge 292. Survivors: Daughters, Deborah Lindley and husband, David, of Mineral Wells, Joy Allen and husband, Gary, of Trenton; stepdaughter, Vicki Baty and husband, Richard Schey, of Montville, N.J.; grandchildren, Kathryn Lndley, Billy Lindley, Cody Allen, Matthew Schey, Stephanie Schey; numerous nices, nephews and other family members.
