Charles Morris Henderson

March 1, 1928 — October 13, 2018

Charles "Charlie" Morris Henderson, 90, of Lewisville and previously Lancaster, Tx., passed away in his sleep on Saturday, Oct. 13. A graveside service honoring his life will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Lane 1. Charlie was born on March 1, 1928 in Newby, Tx to James and Martha (Whetsell) Henderson, a railroad family. His passions in life were exemplified by his service to God, country and others. Enlisting as a 17-year-old, he served in the Pacific Theater in WW II as a Naval communications officer on the USS Black and then served stateside training officers during the Korean War. He enjoyed a lifelong career in education following his graduation from the University of Texas. In Austin, he served as a teacher, mentor and principal working primarily at Pecan Springs Elementary. From there, he moved to Region IV ESC in Houston where he served area districts as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. As an assistant superintendent in both Seguin ISD and Lancaster ISD, he was a visionary in educational technology integration. He retired in 1988 and opened 3S Company, a private computer consulting firm. He is preceded in death by Melba Henderson Lummus, Marguerite Henderson Sanders and James Henderson. He is survived by Charles Delmar Lummus of Cleburne, Jim Bob Lummus of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and numerous nephews and nieces as well as Gary (stepson), Julie and Zachary Zwahr of Frisco, Tx. Charlie is best remembered as an amazing spirit who encouraged and championed everyone he met, especially if they were supporters of public education, the Texas Longhorns or the Dallas Cowboys.
