JOSHUA -- Charles Dixon Steed, 97, of Joshua, a retired barber, passed away Thursday Jan. 20, 2011 in Granbury. Funeral: 10 am Wednesday Jan. 26, 2011 at Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Caddo Cemetery in Joshua. Visitation: 6-8 pm Tues. at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Charles was born Nov. 22, 1913 in Grandview to Lee and Etta Frances Stoker Steed. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired after 23 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a Pro Boxer in the U.S. Navy. Charles was also a member of First U.M.C of Joshua where he taught sunday school for many years. He was the owner of Steed's Barber Shop for 22 years before retiring. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Velma Williams Steed, daughter, Nora Sutton, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local alzheimers assoc. Survivors: Sons, Dale Steed and wife Nancy of Alba, Lee Steed and wife Cyndi of Granbury, Danny Steed and wife Mary Joe of Joshua; daughter, Frances Pickett and husband Bobby of Granbury; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; extended family and friends.
