Cheryl Louise Hughes

November 29, 1943 — January 11, 2023

Cheryl Louise (Thompson) Hughes 79, was born in Fort Worth, Texas on November 29, 1943 to “Speedy” and Janie Thompson . On January 11, 2023 surrounded by her loving family she peacefully passed leaving her earthly body to her forever heavenly home with our Lord and Savior Jesus.

Growing up in Fort Worth, she was blessed with a little sister, Denise in 1954 whom she adored throughout her whole life. At age 16, her and her family moved to Friona, Texas where she graduated Friona High School. She then attended West Texas State University with a major in Art, where she met the love of her life, James Hughes. James was the photographer for the yearbook and when she sat to take her photo, it was love at first sight. They married February 1, 1969 in Lubbock Texas which is where they opened Cheryl's Photography Studio and worked hand-in-hand. She continued her education at Texas Tech until she became a full-time loving and devoted mother to her son, Michael and daughter, Shannon. Moving to Burleson in 1979, she played a very active role in her children's lives. She would participate in everything from PTA president, room mom, VBS leader, band booster, rodeo supporter, and cowbell ringer for the drill team. She was an amazing seamstress who made many of the kids clothes, her own clothes and also sold to the public for over 30 years. As active as she was for her children, she was as equally if not more as active in her faith in the Lord, making a solid Christian foundation within their home and daily living. After retirement they were blessed to be able to travel and go on cruises which sparked and kindled their love for each other even more. The love that she had for her family continued to show through her greatest treasures, her grandchildren, always making it a point to be present in any and all activities. We will truly miss the active role she played in our daily lives.

Cheryl is preceeded in death by her husband James Hughes, her father Elma "Speedy" Thompson, her mother Eugenie "Janie" (Hendershott) Fraizer, her brother Michael Wayne Thompson, and her granddaughter Maegan Raeanne Hughes.

She is survived by her children, Michael and wife Kayla Hughes, Shannon Stafford and husband Nick, grandchildren Robin McClure, Taylor Moseley, husband Tim, Aria Hughes, Grant Hughes, expecting 1st great grandchild Karter Kay Moseley, sister Denise Bartley, husband Tommy, niece Kristen Garrison, husband Scott and their 3 boys; Rhett, Austin, and Ryan, niece Shelley Huffman, husband Antonio and their 2 children; Aeson and Aniyah.
