BURLESON -- Doris Benton, a retired nurse, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, surrounded by her family. Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday at the Burleson Church of Christ. Interment: Rosehill Cemetery, Cleburne. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Burleson Church of Christ Building Fund, 820 SW Wilshire Blvd. Burleson, Texas 76028; or American Cancer Society, Burleson Relay For Life, care of Amber, P.O. Box 699, Burleson, Texas 76097. Doris was born Nov. 13, 1921, to Drew and Myrtle Stephens White near Cleburne. She was the youngest of seven children. After graduating from Cleburne High School she attended beauty school and became a hairdresser; however, her passion was to become a nurse. In 1945 she married Bob Benton and they enjoyed horses and were members of the Cowtown Posse Riding Club. In 1967, they made her dream come true and she went to nursing school at Johnson County Memorial Hospital. She graduated as an LVN at the top of her class. She loved nursing and was recognized several times for her superior nursing skills. She always faced the troubles of life with faith and dignity. She was a godly woman. She now joins her twin baby daughters, Donna and Darla. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughters; siblings, Loren, Othel, Irene, Carl, Alvin and Harold. A special thanks to the staff at Crowley Nursing Center. Survivors: Daughter, Dana Shipp and husband, Gary; grandson, Grant Shipp and wife, Perla; great-grandchildren, Izabella, Garrett and Gregory; her precious nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she adored; and a host of friends.
