D.S. Vaughn Jr.

December 14, 1925 — December 23, 2016

D.S. Vaughn Jr. left this earth to join the heavenly choir on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at the age of 91. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Everman Cemetery. Family visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Joshua. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Erath County Meals on Wheels program, or to the Morgan Mill Baptist Church. D.S. was born Dec. 14, 1925, to Delbert Samuel and Atha Davilla Vaughn in Everman. He entered the U.S. Army on his 19th birthday and was honorably discharged in October of 1946. He worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, much of that time delivering mail in Everman. Upon retiring, he and his wife, Connie, moved to Bowie and later to the Morgan Mill/Stephenville area, where they were active members of the Morgan Mill Baptist Church. D.S. was passionate about serving his community and drove thousands of miles over 20 years as an Erath County Meals on Wheels volunteer, and he participated with other seniors who were devoted to visiting and singing together at area nursing homes. He was gifted with a beautiful voice and he loved singing and listening to gospel music. D.S. was a man of deep Christian faith, and we take comfort in knowing that his journey continues eternally as he rejoices with those who have gone on before. He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie, and his brother, Hal. Survivors: Sons, Clifford and Glen Vaughn and Robert Musick; daughters, Debbie McCord and Melodie Owen; grandchildren, Jeremy, Brian, Nick, Chastity, Gabrielle, Kristen, Chase, Melody, Bradley and Analise; 16 great-grandchildren; three nephews.
