Dub Sims, age 81, of Burleson, Texas, died peacefully on Friday, March 19, 2021, in Ft Worth, Texas surrounded by his wife and sons.
Dub was born December 20, 1939 in Olney, TX. He was the third son of the late John Franklin Sims and Lydia Essie Everett Sims. Dub was a graduate of Paint Creek High School, Haskell, TX. He graduated in the spring of 1962 from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College.
He was a Vo-Ag teacher at Eastland (1962-65) and Throckmorton (1965-67) High schools, and then was a County Extension Agent in Midland (1967-72) and Nolan (1972-74) Counties. In 1975, he accepted a position with the Ft Worth National Bank in the Farm & Ranch Trust Department. Dub retired in 2004, after nearly 30 years in the Farm and Ranch Trust Department.
He was very involved in the beef industry but during his free time he was an avid hunter and fisherman. As a kid he grew up on the Brown & Davis Ranch near Paint Creek Community and showed Herefords through the Haskell County 4-H program. In 1955 he won Grand Champion steer at the Fort Worth Livestock Show. Later he continued to be involved with his sons’ 4-H activities including working with steer and heifer projects as well as serving as a leader for the livestock judging team. He was also a steer superintendent at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and a longtime member of the Fort Worth Farm and Ranch Club.
Dub was preceded in death by his parents and both of his brothers, Frank and Ray Sims.
Dub is survived by his wife Sidney Beth Guyler Sims, sons CarySims of Lufkin, TX , Brian Sims of Corinth, TX, their spouses, and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Guyler Sims, Grayson Sims, and Drake Sims; nephews Rick Sims and Boxer Sims; and close family friends Jay Davis, Marshall Eaton, and Mike Lansford.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, Joshua, Tx.
Services will be Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Joshua, Tx. Officiating will be Rev David Couch of First Baptist Burleson. Graveside services at the Burleson Cemetery will immediately follow. There will be no Covid restrictions.
