BURLESON -- Edwin C. Worley, Sr., 83, a 46 year Burleson resident and retired Elementary School Principal in Burleson, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at a local nursing home after a long illness. Funeral: 10:00 a.m., Friday at the Burleson Church of Christ with Karl Jones officiating. Burial: Burleson Memorial Park in Burleson. Visitation: 6-8 p.m., Thursday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Burleson. He was born June 27, 1921 in Krum to Ernest L. and Jimmie Irene Cunningham Worley. He married Lucille Egan on Feb. 11, 1945 in Denton. He proudly served his country during WW II in the U.S. Navy. Ed, as he was known by his many friends was a great lover of childrens sports, his church, and his family. He held both a Bachelor and Masters Degree from North Texas University. As a principal in Burleson for 18 years he was partially responsible for many of the changes in curriculum, physical education, and PTO in elementary schools. Ed was a life member of TSTA, PTO, a charter member of American Legion Post 569, in Fort Worth, and the Texas Elementary Principals Asso. He was owner of Texas Gunworks in Burleson and a member of the Burleson Church of Christ. After his retirement, Ed returned to his love of swimming. He entered the Senior Olympics for several years earning several medals in Texas and 3 ribbons in the nationals. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Ernest L. and Arther Eugene Worley. Survivors: Wife of 60 years, Lucille Worley of Burleson; son, Ed Worley Jr., and wife Jerrie of Burleson; sister in-laws, Ann Worley of Austin and Zina Worley of Del Rio; several nieces and nephews.
