Eugene Wright Embry

April 5, 1932 — May 21, 2024

Eugene Wright Embry was born to Lester and Bertha Embry in Sivell's Bend, TX, on April 5th, 1932. He passed peacefully to his heavenly home on the afternoon of May 21st.
Eugene (Gene to his friends) grew up in Marietta, Oklahoma, with his father and mother and one sibling, LuAnn Embry Locke. He attended local schools and played football in high school. He loved to tell how he drove a load of hogs to Fort Worth every day, even after football practice.
Eugene married Carol Embry and had three children: Michael J. Embry, Claudia Embry Humphreys, and Kae Embry Keith.
His Grandchildren were the center of his world. Meg Smith Waldrop, Eric Humphreys, Blair Embry, Jake Humphreys, Susan Smith Moerbe.
Carol Embry passed in 2011.
Eugene fell in love again and married Ruth Korb Embry in 2013.
Marrying into the Korb family brought a whole new set of Grandchildren. Ashlie Korb Moore, Ryan Korb, Joshua Korb, Madison Korb Sheldon, Garrett Korb, Jared Korb, Brandon Korb, and Jade Korb.
Eugene's Great-Grandchildren are Weston Moore, Jacob Moore, Charlie Moore, Brody Korb, Carter Korb, Embry Waldrop, Olivia Waldrop, and Catherine Waldrop.
While in the army during the Korean War, Eugene was a member of the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. After the service, Gene attended Oklahoma A&M University (Now Oklahoma State University). He graduated with a degree in Animal Science and a minor in Math. Eugene wrote a thesis on a Wheat Pasture program during his senior year. He began using this program with his father at L&E Cattle Company and, later, with his son Mike Embry; this program was designed to raise cattle on planted wheat instead of feed for increased profit and better beef.
Another achievement is Eugene's tire recycling legislation. He ultimately developed the legislation that brought the Tire Recycling Industry to Oklahoma and Texas. The legislation written and passed in Texas was his favorite, and keeping junk tires under control in Texas is still profitable.
After Gene's grandson Eric Humphreys started attending OSU, the family discovered no scholarships were specified for students with Dyslexia. Eugene, also dyslexic, was honored to have a scholarship in his name. The Eugene Embry Scholarship for Students with Dyslexia at Oklahoma State University was established in 2011. To date, close to $50,000 has been awarded to over 34 students who've faced the lifelong challenge of living with Dyslexia. These recipients have found immense inspiration and hope through these scholarship awards as they pursue the dream of a college degree. The Eugene Embry scholars are pursuing or have earned their bachelor's in 20 separate majors and one has gone on to receive an advanced degree. The scholarship will be a lasting legacy to Eugene Embry.
Those wishing to make a memorial gift to the Eugene Embry Endowed Scholarship may send checks made payable to Oklahoma State University Foundation with "Eugene Embry Scholarship" noted in the memo and mailed to the OSU Foundation, PO Box 1749, Stillwater, OK 74076-1749.
