BURLESON -- Faye Parks Mercer of Burleson, a homemaker, passed from this life to be with her Lord on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at the age of 94. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Burleson Church Of Christ. Interment: Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Burleson Church Of Christ library or to Vitas Hospice. Faye was born Oct. 1, 1913, to Joseph and Mary Parks in Lamar County. She married Roy Silas Mercer Sr. on Sept. 30, 1933, and started her life in Burleson, where she lived until her death. Faye was a founding and lifelong member of the Burleson Church Of Christ where she taught Bible school for 25 years. She also helped start the church library, the Huguley Hospital library, where she volunteered for several years, and was a founding member of the Burleson Public Library Board. Faye also was a member of the Burleson Garden Club for many years and was a group leader to three generations of Camp Fire Girls. Although Faye was a tireless community leader, she was happiest being in her yard and flower gardens putting her green thumb to use. Faye was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who greatly influenced all who knew her and was deeply loved and will be missed by all her friends and family. Faye was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Roy; two brothers; and two sisters. Survivors: Son, Roy Silas Mercer Jr. and wife, Mary, of Glen Rose; daughters Paula Patricia Hood of Burleson, Melanie Mercer DeWitt and husband, Gene, of Burleson; sister, Pauline Garrett of Fort Worth; grandchidren, Monte, Roy and Stephen Mercer, Paula Pool and Gary Hood, Eric, Erin and Adrienne DeWitt; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
