Frank G Norwood

May 31, 1935 — September 25, 2024

Frank G. Norwood went to be with our Lord and Savior on September 25, 2024 after living a long and fruitful life. Frank was born on May 31, 1935. He was the son of James W. Norwood and Baird (Gulley) Norwood, and lived his entire life in Burleson, Texas, giving to his church and community.

Frank graduated from Burleson High School in 1953, and then attended the University of North Texas and graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration in 1957 and a Master's of Business Education in 1958. He then took a break from his education to serve his country in the United States Army for three years from 1958-60, and 1961-1962. He then furthered his education by attending The University of Oklahoma and received his Doctorate of Business Education in 1968.

His teaching career started at Texas Wesleyan University in the fall of 1960, and continued through the spring of 2004 when he retired. During this time, he served as a professor of Business Administration, and various administrative positions, including Dean of the School of Business. He was Dean for over 30 years. Frank had a passion for teaching, and for enriching the lives of those he taught over the years. His classes were known to be difficult but fair. The senior level class that he taught was known as the last high hurdle for the students to cross to achieve graduation. Frank was a member on several education boards on the state and national level, including the Texas Business Education Association, where he served on the Executive Board and was an Editor of the Texas Business Educator publication.

He was active in his community and church. In Burleson and the surrounding area, over the years he served on numerous boards and committees. Frank was the mayor of Burleson from 1972-76 and was involved in developing the first master plan for the City of Burleson. He also helped develop the Ft. Worth Business Executive Hall of Fame Award and was a member of that board for over 20 years. Frank was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Burleson. He served on various committees including budget and auditing. At one time he managed the youth department and taught Sunday School.

Frank will alway be remembered for the love of his family and for his dry and biting sense of humor. He is survived by his brother James Spencer Norwood; nephew Kent Norwood and wife Marcy; niece Kerri Costa and husband Steve; grand niece Cassie Norwood; and grand nephews Spence Norwood, Bryce Norwood, Camron Costa, Caden Costa, and Carson Costa.

A church service for Frank will be held at the First Baptist Church of Burleson on Friday, October 4th at 2:00 pm, with pastor Mike Milburn officiating. All that knew him are encouraged to attend. A visitation time with the family will start an hour before the service. At the conclusion of the service, we will move to the Burleson Memorial Cemetery where Frank will be interred. The Pallbearers will be his grand niece and grand nephews.
