Garland Jean, 81, of Burleson, a retired superintendent for Lone Star Gas, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at Burleson Church of Christ with Karl Jones and Don Kuhn officiating. Interment: Rose Hill Cemetery in Cleburne. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Odell Porter, Don Lovett, Ricky Jean, Paul Stinson, C.J. Baxter and Buck Spelce. Garland Jean was born Feb. 4, 1928 in Hill County to Jacob and Gladys Mabry Jean. He married Ellen Holt on Dec. 20, 1947, in Blum. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved mowing yards, washing cars, bluegrass festivals, RV traveling, watching his grandson play the fiddle and his granddaughter barrel race. He was a devoted Christian man who loved the Lord and was a member of Burleson Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his biological parents; his parents, Carroll and Victoria Simmons; brothers, Bufford, Penney, Tom, Buddy and Kenneth Jean; and sister, Ruth Yates. Survivors: Wife, Ellen Jean of Burleson; daughter, Vicki Bailey and husband, Gary, of Burleson; grandson, Shawn Bailey and wife, Angela, of Shelbyville, Tenn.; grandaughter, Ellicia Bailey of Fort Worth; brothers, Ronnie Jean and wife, Sharon, of Round Rock and David Jean of Fort Worth; sisters, Ida Duncan of Cedar Creek, Juanita Lovett and husband, Don, of DeSoto, Elizabeth Godbey of Lancaster, Brenda Thompson and husband, Wendell, of DeSoto and Shirley King of Daisetta; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
