BURLESON -- Gene R. Stiles, 72, a retired U.S Air Force Msgt., Registered Nurse, and Vietnam Veteran, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 in Fort Worth. Funeral: 2:00 P.M. Monday at First United Methodist Church of Burleson. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation: 3-5 PM. Sunday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Memorials: 1st United Methodist Church of Burleson Building Fund. Gene Raymond Stiles was born March 5, 1935 in Hollis, OK., to A.C. and Hazel Carter Stiles. He graduated from Fort Worth Technical High School in 1954. He married Cliffa Jean Truitt on June 22, 1958 in Gainsville. Mr. Stiles proudly served his country in the National Guard for two years then served in the U.S. Air Force for twenty years retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1975. During his military career he was stationed in England, The Phillipines, Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, Panama, and numerous other bases throughout the U.S. He graduated from TCJC Nursing School in 1980 and worked at Saint Joseph Hospital, Home Health in Tarrant County, and retired from nursing in 1997. Mr. Stiles built and flew remote control airplanes, enjoyed oil painting, and woodworking. He loved traveling with his wife, and was a collector of many things. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Burleson since 1987. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Clifton Arthur Stiles. Survivors: Wife of 48 years, Cliffa Jean Stiles of Burleson; daughters, Rita Lynn Guhl and husband Leslie of Burleson, Marla Jo Bennett and husband Brian of Burleson; sister, Retha Mae McAfee of Bowie; brother and sister in law, Charles and Beth Truitt; grandchildren, Mary and Joshua Guhl, Bryce and Micah Bennett; several nieces and other family members.
