JOSHUA -- George Carter Graner, 77, of Joshua, a retired combat engineer in the U.S. Army, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: 11:15 a.m. Monday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Grand Prairie. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Memorials: The Open Door Church or a veterans association of choice. George was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Jerseyville, Ill., to George Jacob and Maxine Selden Carter Graner. George was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He married Josie Hildebrand on Oct. 4, 1956, in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. George proudly served his country in the Army as a combat engineer, twice in Korea and Vietnam, five years in Europe, and also served in Panama and Hawaii. George was a life member of the VFW and NRA, and a member of the DAV and Moose Lodge. George attended The Open Door Church in Joshua. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Graner; and stepmother, Dorothy Garrison Graner. Survivors: Wife, Josie Graner of Joshua; daughter, Bethany Graner of Joshua; sons, Brian Graner and wife, Elena, of Saginaw and Brent Graner and wife, Marcia, of Iraq; brother, Donald Graner of Alton, Ill.; sister-in-law, Martha Graner of Carrollton, Ill.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; extended family; and friends.
