George Burton Root

George Burton Root, 71, passed away June 8, 2024, in Joshua, Texas formerly of Crawfordville, Florida. He was born on May 3, 1953, in Philipsburg, PA

After graduating from Moshannon Valley High School in 1971 George served in the United States Navy as a Boiler Technician from 1972 to 1976. His career path led him being a Federal Correctional Officer and then a US Mail Carrier until his retirement in 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan Rene Metcalf Root formerly of Panacea, Florida. Two sons Jonathan Root, Gig Harbor, WA and Jonas Root, Joshua, TX and the apple of his eye his only Grandson Korbin Root, Gig Harbor, WA. Sisters Donna Aylward (Jim), Bradford, PA, Daisy Mosley, Houtzdale, PA, Howard Root (Paula), Osceola Mills, PA, David Root, Brisbin, PA, Jeffrey Root, Bradford, PA, Elaine Owens (Mike), Detroit, MI, and Pamela Hull, Mansfield, OH plus many nieces and nephews who he adored.

He was preceded in death by his Father George Burton Root, Sr., Mother Alice Faye Stonebraker Root, Sisters Sandra McDonald and Catherine Root-Roberts and Brother Mark Root.

A service to honor George's life will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 10:00am at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, 3407 SW Wilshire Blvd, Joshua, Texas 76058.
