George Whittington Steele of Joshua died at home on Friday after a brief battle with cancer. He was 76.
George was born on November 11, 1942, in Streetman and grew up in Hearne. He graduated from Hearne High School before moving to Fort Worth and serving the City of Fort Worth as a police officer for 30 years. He retired as a sergeant due to health concerns, but took pride in the service he gave, the work he did for others, and the family he raised.
George is survived by his wife, Carole, of Joshua, and his brother, WR Steele, and his wife, Zelda, of Weatherford. He is also survived by three children and their spouses- Dee Dee Friddle of North Carolina, Laura Van Pelt and husband Robert of Joshua, and Alan Steele and wife Dyna Osuna of Burleson.
His grand children are Robyne Clausen and husband Christopher of North Carolina; Meagan Friddle of North Carolina; Kaydon Friddle of North Carolina; Kyle Swiney and wife Janet of Joshua; Heather Peters and husband Josh of Burleson; Jessie Foster and husband Nathan of Burleson; Dylan Van Pelt of Burleson; Hallie Steele of Cleburne; Taylor Steele of Cleburne; Christian Steele of Burleson; JD Osuna and wife Yocelin of Fort Worth; and Mikey Osuna of Fort Worth. He had 13 great-grand children.
George was preceded in death by his parents WR Steele and Mary Steele and his sisters, Naomi Boyd and Virginia Faye Clanton.
Visitation will be held 2-4 pm on Sunday, January 27, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Joshua, Texas.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1pm at Caddo Cemetery in Joshua, Texas.
