Our beloved father Glyn Wayne Thiebaud went to heaven peacefully in his sleep Thursday morning surrounded by family.
Dad was born June 27th, 1935 to Minnie Merle and Jack Thiebaud. He grew up in Breckinridge, Texas where he attended school and was a standout student and athlete. He spent most of the rest of his time on his grandparent’s farm. His favorite sport was football and was part of the legendary football dynasty of Breckinridge High School in the 1950s. He went on to play college football on scholarship at Texas Tech and Arlington State while pursuing a degree in physics.
He married our mother Betty Jean Steele Thiebaud on November 24th, 1955. He stopped playing football at that point and devoted the next 66 years to providing and loving his wife and children while continuing his studies in night school at TCU. He was employed as a test engineer at Convair/General Dynamics and as a structural engineer at Bell Helicopter.
We do not have a single negative memory of our father. He was and is the best man we have ever known. There was not an ounce of vanity in Him. You could not get him to talk about himself. He modeled an elite work ethic and a sense of right and wrong that is beyond description. His creed was, “If there’s anything wrong with something it’s all wrong; don’t do it.” he was the working definition of a great man, father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. You cannot find anyone that knew him that has a bad word to say about him. If you wanted to teach someone how to be a good man in every frame of reference you would point to our Dad and say, “Be like him.” He loved Jesus and was a deacon in his home church. He was preceded in death by his mother that he adored, Minnie Merle Thiebaud, his father Jack Thiebaud and brothers Bobby and Benny Thiebaud.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Betty Jean Steele Thiebaud, sons Jack, Ross and Clifton Thiebaud and daughter Sunnie Rae Thiebaud Hamilton, 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. We love you Dad and we miss you so much but we will see you up there.
