HL Coats was born in Moran, Texas on February 8, 1935. He passed away peacefully in the early morning on Christmas Day in Burleson, Texas.
HL grew up on the family farm in Cisco, Texas with his parents and eleven siblings. After doing his morning chores, and before school, he had a paper route and another one after school. And, yes, after that, he had chores on the farm before bedtime. He was truly a hard worker as a young boy, and that followed him the rest of his life. Work was his hobby.
He attended school in Cisco. Then he joined the Navy in 1953 for four years during the Korean War. After that, he returned home and received his bachelor's degree and passed his CPA exam.
During his working career, he managed several manufacturing companies. After he retired from being the CEO of Dynamo Corporation, a company that manufactured pool tables, foosball tables, air hockey, and video games, he was bored, so he didn't retire for very long.
He started his own company, Coats and Coats Custom Homes. HL did finally retire because he couldn't walk the construction sites safely. He was 87 when he finally stopped working.
HL was preceded in death by his parents, eleven siblings, and his youngest son, Andrew Coats. He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Coats, and his three sons. Chris Coats and his friend, Nina. Chris daughter Alex, and her partner, Billy and their son, Oliver. David Coats and his wife, Evelyn of Colorado Springs and their daughters, Madeline Coats of Los Angeles, and Rosalind Coats of Washington D.C. and Matthew Coats and his children, Landon Coats of Tomball, Texas, and Lauren Coats of Southlake, Texas.
HL will live in our hearts forever. He will be missed.
