ALVARADO -- J. Ed Bass, 55, of Alvarado, a minister and pastor for 20 years, and education director of the IT Department of Southwestern AG University in Waxahachie, died Monday July 21, 2008, in Waxahachie. Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Burleson. Interment: Keene Memorial Park in Keene. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chi Alpha Memorial Fund in honor of J. Ed Bass, P.O. Box 1188, Hurst, Texas 76053. James Edwin Bass was born Feb. 7, 1953, in Merced, Calif., to J.E. and Nellie Grace Rudy Bass. He married Leah Gayle Surface on May 27, 1977, in Nacogdoches. Ed was a beekeeper, loved gardening, and could fix anything. He was very intelligent, a lifelong learner, and had a hunger for educating himself about everything. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. He put his family above all else. He was a kid at heart, always loved a good fairy tale, and had a tender heart. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. Survivors: Wife, Leah Gayle Bass of Alvarado; son, Jonathan Jared Elrond Bass and wife, Lindsay, of Waxahachie; daughter, Rachel Amanda Arwen Pathak and husband, Shomik, of Dallas; mother, Nellie Gace Rudy of Cleburne; sisters, Jenelle Arlene Bonifield and husband, Thomas, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Sondra Marcelle Hawkins and husband, Kyle, of Arlington; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and other family members.
