Jack Helm of Fort Worth, Texas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday August 22,2022.
Visitation will be held from 11 – 11:30 am Monday, August 29th at Pathway Church, 250 NW Tarrant Rd, Burleson, TX 76028 with services immediately following at 11:30 am. Interment will be at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with military honors on Tuesday August 30th at 2:00 pm.
Born April 17th, 1931, on a farm near Memphis, Texas, to John Nelson Helm Sr. and Lavada (Monroe) Helm, Jack was the eighth of nine children. He graduated with honors from Estelle High School, Texas in 1947 and, while in the Air Force, from Southwestern State College, Oklahoma, in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics.
Jack joined the Air Force in 1950 and retired as a LT. Colonel in 1985 in Fort Worth where he and his wife, Billie, have resided since retirement.
During his career, he became a command pilot and flew many different types of aircrafts which includes the B-47, B-52, and the B-66 multi-engine jets. He flew 225 combat missions during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with cluster, the Air Medal with 8 clusters, and several other awards and citations for his accomplishments throughout his Air Force career.
Jack and Billie were married in 1950 and enjoyed 71 happy years raising their family and traveling during their 35 years in the military and subsequent retirement years. For several years Jack was involved in buying and selling automobiles, mostly as a hobby.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Betty Joe Helm and Ruby Louise Smallwood; six brothers, John N. Helm Jr. (Dude), George F. Helm (Hank), Ralph J. Helm, Aubrey Helm, Leon Helm, and Bobby Helm.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Billie of 71 years, daughters Rhonda Ransom of Ft. Worth, Carol Magazu and husband Dr. Mark of Emory, Texas; Lisa McNabb and husband Scott of Burleson, Texas, and son, Mark and wife Lavonne of Emory, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
