James David Collins Sr., 68, of Alvarado, a retired contractor, went home to his heavenly Father on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Union Hill Cemetery, Joshua. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. James David Collins Sr. was born Dec. 6, 1942, in Johnson County to J.T. and Katherine Lay Collins. He married Veronica "Vickie" Lorene Worrell on March 10, 2000. He was a contractor and foreman specializing in building churches for 40 years. He built an uncountable amount of church buildings, large and small, from California to Maine, and all areas between. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his cows, which he knew all by name. His fish stories got greater every year. His favorite meal was breakfast. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a great friend. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tracy Lynn Collins; brother, Buster Collins; and uncle, Bill Collins. Survivors: Wife, Vickie Collins of Alvarado; sons, James "Jimmy" Collins Jr. and wife, Tracy Lynn, of Alvarado, Jeremy Collins and wife, Mellissa, of Burleson and Cory Collins of Alvarado; daughter, Tawanna Collins of Alvarado; stepdaughters, Patricia Bullard and husband, Don, of Canton and Heather Radke of Arlington; brother, Kenny Collins of Freeport; sisters, DoraFay Lightfoot of Joshua, Christine Duvall and husband, Pat, of Joshua and Barbara Gay Terrell and husband, Larry, of Trinity; grandchildren, Gage and Jaycee Bullard; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members; and many friends.
