James "Bud" Miller

James "Bud" Miller, 83, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 in Joshua. Funeral Service: 10 AM, Monday, Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Union Hill Cemetery in Joshua. Visitation: 2-4PM, Sunday, Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Bud was born October 4, 1932, into a farming community in Joshua to Silas Eugene and Mary Alice (Shipley) Miller. He graduated from Joshua High School in 1951. Bud attended Cisco Junior College, The University of Corpus Christi, and received his Bachelor's Degree from Texas Wesleyan College. He played in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system for 5 seasons. Bud was honored to have the opportunity to teach Social Studies, and coach the youth of Joshua, Dumas, Carter Riverside, Grandview, Arlington, and Burleson schools. He was the 1967 Texas Pan Handle Coach of the Year. Bud coached Dumas and Carter Riverside, to the Texas High School Baseball Finals. He proudly served in the United States Army and Reserves. Survivors: daughter, Gay Miller Ray, and husband Dr. Alfred of Duncanville; son Monty Miller, and wife Glenda of Joshua; 4 grandchildren, Steven Creach, and wife Christie, Shelly Vaughn, and husband Jon Tucker, Cassie Vaughn, Sarah (Miller) Spivey, and husband John; 7 great-grandchildren, Trayson, Avery, Brynn, Anna, Kaitlyn, Ella, Emily; brother, Elbert J. Miller; sisters, Janie Sparks, Alice Payne, and husband Harley, and Kay Wolverton; two loves of his life, Francis and Barbara; many, many relatives, friends, and colleagues.
