CLEBURNE -- James "J.P." Preston Nelson, 75, a retired patrolman in the Fort Worth Police Department, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at his residence. Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Burleson. Burial: Marystown Cemetery in Joshua. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Mr. Nelson was born June 1, 1931, in Cedar Hill to Lee Otis and Leoma Briggs Nelson. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He married Dorothy Maxine Campbell on May 14, 1955, in Weatherford. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and restoring old homes. He was a 25-year veteran of the Fort Worth Police Department and member of Burleson Baptist Temple. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Dannie Nelson, in 1987. Survivors: Wife of 51 years, Dorothy Nelson of Cleburne; daughter, Sherrie Lynn Morton and husband, Dwayne of Cleburne; brothers, Charles Nelson of Hope, Ark., Jerry Nelson and wife, Virginia of Burleson, Bobby Nelson of California; sisters, Joyce Robinson of Fort Worth, Doris McKnight and husband, Darrell of Arlington, Veta Orsborn of Lewisville, Patsy Price and husband, Wayland of Grandview; grandchildren, Melinda, Jason, Justin, Rachel, Jessica; great-grandchildren, Landon, Jolie, Shelbie, J.P., Kameron, Symphony.
