Jerry Wayne Mcwhorter

Jerry Wayne McWhorter was born in Dallas, TX on April 5, 1950 to Weldon and Cora Juanita (Robertson) McWhorter.  He passed into the eternal presence of his savior Jesus Christ on July 27, 2021.

After obtaining his GED, he joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Ord, California where he completed his basic training and carried out his 2 year commitment as a driver.  He moved back to Texas where he accepted the saving grace of Jesus and committed his life to him in 1975.  Fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ was a true joy to him the remainder of his life.

He was married and raised his three children in Joshua, TX where he lived the majority of his life.  Despite his struggles, he was a wonderful father to his children and was able to pass on to them the importance of having a relationship with the Lord.  Quick witted and funny he was well liked by nearly all who knew him.

After leaving a family business he returned to driving a truck and was able to see most of the lower 48 states.  He loved seeing the handiwork of God in the landscapes and creation everywhere he went.  He especially loved the West Texas area out around Ft. Davis and he especially loved visiting that area with family and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Weldon, his loving mother Juanita, and his beloved daughter Molly.  He is survived by his son Elliot of Washington State; son Matt and wife Nikki of Cleburne, TX; brother Ronnie and wife Carol of Grandview, TX; sister Joyce Sloan and husband Jim of Grandview, TX; brother Jimmy and wife Kathy of Krum, TX; grandchildren Jake, Davis, and Georgia McWhorter of Cleburne, TX; Aunt Nina (McWhorter) Williams and husband John of Dallas, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Thursday July 29, 2021 at Mountain Valley Funeral Home located at 3407 SW Wilshire Blvd, Joshua, TX 76058 and a graveside service will be held Friday July 30, 2021 at Caddo Cemetery at 6700 FM1902, Joshua, TX 76058.
