CROWLEY -- Jimmy Thurman Winnett, 75, a retired welder by trade, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Tye Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Thurman was born March 21, 1933 in Fort Worth to Jay and Era Knight Winnett. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Thurman married Maxine Tidwell on July 23, 1949, in Fort Worth. He was a 32nd-degree Mason with the Tabernacle Lodge #1195. Thurman was employed by Gearhart-Owens and also Pengo Oil. He loved playing bluegrass music with his friends. Thurman was well know around the area for playing his music. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Hoarce, Gilbert, Cletus amd Floyd Winnett; sisters, Margaret Hayes and Joyce Winnett; daughters-in-law, Patty Winnett and Valinda Winnett; and grandson, Richard Jeffery Moore. Survivors: Wife of 59 years, Maxine Winnett of Crowley; sons, Carroll Winnett of Whitney, Harold Winnett of Whitney and Darrell Winnett and wife, Mary, of Fort Worth; daughter, Sherrell Winnett of Burleson; brother, Leroy Winnett of Crowley; sisters, Sybil Whitfill of Cleburne and Bernice Harrison of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
