Joe Peters passed away peacefully on March 15, 2018 at the age of 77. He was surrounded by family in his final hours. Joe spent his early years between the Rio Grande Valley and the Texas Panhandle finally settling in Plainview, TX where his father owned a cotton gin. He moved his own family to the DFW Metroplex in 1968 where he began his career as an electrician. Joe became a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union in Ft. Worth in 1974. During his career he earned his Master's Electrician License, taught in the IBEW apprenticeship program, was elected as business agent and served on the board of the credit union. He loved being a member of the union until his retirement and remained a strong supporter for the rest of his life. He was well liked and well respected not only by his peers but by anyone who knew him. Other notable accomplishments: Member of the USMC reserves, member of the Masonic Lodge, sang in his church choir, coached his kids' baseball/softball teams and made regular donations to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Amarillo to serve underprivileged children. Joe was what every family man strives to be - loving, supportive, generous with his time and a great teacher of life lessons. He loved to tell corny jokes, pull pranks and would do anything for a laugh! He also loved family gatherings and we loved to make him the center of our attention on his birthday and Father's Day every year. The earthly body may be gone but Joe's spirit lives on in all of us who were lucky enough to call him a husband, Dad, Pawpaw, cousin or friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Ruby, and his children, Mark Peters and wife, Karen; Michele Peters Liptak and husband, John; stepchildren Christy Crites; Cindy Nava and husband, Jose; Craig Blackwood and wife, Julie; twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous relatives.
