John Carl Hart

John Carl Hart, 88, of Burleson, Texas, died on 2 March 2023, exactly one week after the passing of his beloved wife and lifelong touchstone, Louann Passamonte Hart. Following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, John passed away peacefully.

John was a man of depth — a man of few words and thoughtful observation. He worked hard. He loved his wife and his family completely and always did what needed to be done to protect and nurture them. He was a man who fixed things with the knack and energetic curiosity of a true tinkerer. John Hart was a man who always read the manual, cover to cover.

Born on July 14, 1934, John graduated from Devry University with a certification in electronics. In his early adult life, John owned a gas station, but he soon shifted his attention to aeronautical radio — a field in which he proved to be prodigiously gifted. For decades John traveled the country fixing airport radio systems, often with his family in tow. He was the guy people got in to fix the technical problems no one else could figure out. After retiring, John worked as a contractor. He was still clambering around on radio towers when he was 75 years old. He worked on Civil Defense during the brutal Chicago winters, going out and directing traffic and cleaning up accidents on the road just because it needed to be done. He was that guy.

Beyond his unceasing curiosity, people who knew John came to recognize his endearing quirks: His passion for Rod Stewart, his great head of hair (that’d persist in striking silver abundance right through to his final days), and, of course, his fierce dedication to the Chicago Cubs and Bears.

But more than anything, John was all about his family. And not just as a loving father waiting in the wings; John was an active participant. He tried (in vain) to get Rocky interested in repairing car engines. He sat with Louisa for hours teaching her electronics (even though she dropped the soldering iron). He helped remodel Cindy’s house. He fixed his kids’ televisions, tuned their cars, and came to their aid no matter what — through rain, sleet, or snow. Because, again, he was just that guy.

John loved the Lord. He was always an active part of his congregation, working alongside his wife, Louann, to keep the church vibrant and its flock thriving. He did this in practical ways but also as the gentle listener — the one who provided that solid backstop of moral and emotional support.

The arc of John’s life would be incomplete without mentioning his ardent love for his wife and soul mate, Louann Passamonte Hart. They completed each other. As John and Louann grew old together, their lives became deeply intertwined. They finished each other’s sentences, they loved the same TV shows, she cooked dinner and he knew where to find the hammer and screwdriver. He loved Louann more than anything. He didn’t care about paint colors or which couch to buy. Whatever she liked best was what made him happy. John loved Louann.

John is survived by 9 children: Lori, Cindy, Jack, Glory Dee, Louisa, Donisa, Terisa, Rocky, and Camille. He had 20 grandchildren: Shannon, Alyisa, Daniel, Greg, DJ, Amanda, Abby, Katie, Christian, Josh, Samantha, Dustin, Emily, Caleb, Matthew, Olivia, Abigail, Isabel, Lucia, and Hudson. He also had 4 great-grandchildren.
