JOSHUA -- John George Hooper, 85, of Joshua, a retired General Motors technical artist, died Friday, March 19, 2010, in Bonham. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 4, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. John was born to George H. and Ida LaFountaine Hooper in Detroit, Mich. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. John married Helene Genevieve McDavid on Nov. 22, 1980, in Arlington. John was a technical artist for General Motors and retired after 34 years of service. He loved reading, traveling, birds and dogs. He was a big history buff. John had been featured in books and documentaries. He also was an artist in many ways, one of which he designed and built three houses. He was preceded in death by his parents and one cousin, Mary Jane. Survivors: Wife of 30 years, Gen Blow Hooper of Joshua; sons, Brian and Michael Hooper; four stepchildren; granddaughter, Chelsea; great-grandson, Brady; five stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
