Julian Velasquez, 83, of Burleson Texas, passed away at home on February 18, 2025.

Julian was born on January 9, 1942 to Miguel and Placida Velasquez in Dallas, Texas. Born the oldest twin and second of nine children, he grew up in West Dallas, Texas. As a child, he enjoyed playing tops, marbles, and loved reading Superman and Lone Ranger comic books. As a young teenager he attended Thomas Edison High School and completed the 8th grade. Shortly after, he worked for Western Union delivering telegrams by bicycle.

Later, as a young man, while working with his father, his manager noticed his knowledge of math and ability to quickly learn and moved him from physical labor to work in the office. That was a move that launched his career as a draftsman. He worked as a draftsman until he retired at the age of 65, from Lane Supply Inc. During his tenure as a draftsman, he helped build many gas station canopies, highway beams, and mall parking garages.

He welcomed three children: Vincent (1962), Denise (1963), and Marie (1964). Julian became a grandfather in 1988 and a great grandfather in 2025.

On June 22, 1995 at the age of 53, he was set up on a blind date by a coworker, where he met the love of his life, Maritza. Within 6 months, they married on December 9th, 1995. They celebrated 29 years on December 9th, 2024.Through this marriage, he gained a daughter, Damaris. She later married Kile, who became his football buddy, and they gave him two granddaughters Madeline & Amelia.

Julian never forgot a birthday or special event to where he had the perfect card and words to offer. He had a deep love for football, especially the Dallas Cowboys, horseshoes, classic cars, music, and pool. He collected Dallas Cowboy memorabilia and vintage gas station collectibles. From stats of the Dallas Cowboys, gas stations, classic cars or music, he was a fountain of knowledge. Julian enjoyed making CDs of music or pictures that he took to give to family members or friends alike. He enjoyed spending the weekends antiquing, going to garage sales, traveling by following his nose, and spending time with his grandkids and family.

He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Julian was a very thoughtful, loving, caring, and stubborn human being. When in times of great distress or difficulty, with his great wit, he would have a funny story or comment to lighten the mood. He will truly be missed by all that knew him.

Julian was predeceased by his daughter Denise Velasquez, siblings Mary Cisneros and Ross Velasquez. He is survived by his wife, Maritza, daughters Damaris & Marie, their spouses Kile and Lance, and a son, Vincent. Grandchildren: Madeline, Amelia, Stuart, Samantha, Abigail, Ashleigh (spouse Brandon), Suzanna, and Eleanor, plus his first great grandchild, Lucina. In addition, he is survived by siblings: his twin Bacilio Velasquez, Dorothy De La Rosa, Mike Velasquez, Paul Velasquez, Lupe Renderos, Pauline Velasquez.
