Kenneth (Ken) Thomas Smith was born in Chicago, IL on September 21, 1956 to Thomas and Roberta C. Smith. Ken passed away peacefully Wednesday evening December 13, 2022 as he was transported to his heavenly home surrounded by family and friends.
Ken grew up in Chicago, Il with his parents and nine siblings. Bob and Robin Smith, James Smith, Steve Smith, Renee and John Copp, Laurie and Joe Kinerk and step siblings Pat Kelly, Tom Kelly, Mike Kelly and Lori Kelly.
During Ken’s high school years, the family relocated from Chicago to Osage Beach, MO where he graduated from Camdenton High School. Upon graduation, Ken began what would become a lifelong career in the business of concrete.
In September 1978, Ken married the love of his life Theresa Thomas and continued to pursue his career in concrete working in Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Detroit and finally settling in Burleson, Texas in 2010 where he was employed as the plant manager at Gate Precast in Hillsboro, Texas.
Ken was a devoted husband, son, brother, cousin and uncle to many nephews and nieces. Ken loved Chicago sports and was a huge Chicago Bears fan and spent most fall Sunday’s watching his beloved Bears with family and friends. In addition, Ken loved to work on his house and yard. Ken was also a fun loving, big-hearted individual who loved to entertain family, friends and co-workers with barbeques at his home where folks would enjoy the pool and throwing “bags”. Ken was a true competitor and seldom lost a game of bags – at least that is what he said.
Ken was preceded in death by his father Thomas, stepfather Patrick Kelly, both maternal and paternal grandparents.
Ken is survived by his wife, Theresa, his mother, Robert C. Kelly of Phoenix, AZ and his nine siblings including many nephews and nieces located across the country. In addition, Ken leaves behind the many friends and co-workers whose lives he has touched in such a positive way and left an indelible mark of love, kindness, humor and compassion.
Ken and his warm, genuine smile will forever live in the hearts and minds of all those who knew and loved him so dearly.
