Larry Verl Brower

Larry V Brower was born in Boone, Iowa on September 3, 1934 to Nina (Mosher) Brower and Verl Brower. He passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife of 64 years early Friday morning March 29, 2024, Good Friday.

Larry grew up on the farm of his grandparents outside of Boone, Iowa and enlisted in the USAF right after graduation from Boone High School. Larry was an Air Traffic Controller and was stationed on Fire Island, AK where he met the love of his life, Karen Elaine (MacDonald) Brower on a blind date. They married soon after and built a life together while moving around the world including Aviano, Italy, most of the United States and Hawaii while serving his country for 30 years and retiring as a CMSGT. He continued on after retirement as an Air Traffic Control/Ground Control Agent Trainer at DFW International Airport. Larry was born with a traveling spirit and following retirement from DFW, Larry and Karen became full time RV'ers for several years before settling in Surprise, AZ. Larry and Karen were just in the process of moving back to Texas to be near family.

Larry was active in several car clubs there in AZ, showing his 1970 Chevelle Malibu and also holding several positions in those clubs including President & Vice President.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sandra (Brower) Stavros, and his sister Nancy Sinn.

He is survived by his wife Karen Brower; daughter Jeri Vélez & son in law, Roberto; son in law, Tony Stavros; daughter Lisa Logan & son in law, Ken; and daughter Lori Dorman & son in law, Tom.

Larry is also survived by his pride and joy, his 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild: Ilissa Vélez Hamilton & spouse Spencer, & Gabriel Vélez; Sarah Stavros, Michael Stavros & Alec Stavros; Jason Mortensen & spouse Ginger and their children Madison, Hailee & Lucas; Kyle Mortensen and spouse Joy and their children Kylie & Jon; Julie Vangrud and spouse Adam and their children Dayton & Jade; Michael Howe and his children Malana with Larry's great great grandchild, Dempsey, & Andrea; and Melissa Vraspir and spouse Dan and their son Mitchell.

He is also survived by his sisters Connie Martin & Peggy Becker

He will be greatly missed as the man who gave amazing hugs and could never walk past a child without saying hello! Larry will be buried at the DFW National Cemetery with full Military Honors, befitting his many years serving his country.

In leu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to The National Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.
