Lela Ruth "Ruthy" Freeland

JOSHUA -- Lela Ruth "Ruthy" Hurley Freeland, 79, an artist, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Joshua. Burial: Old Granbury Cemetery, Granbury. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Ruthy was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Walnut Springs to Ira Wesley and Lela Mae Belcher Hurley. They preceded her in death as did her brother, Cleland Hurley, and her sister, Doris Northcutt. Ruthy married B.C. "Slats" Freeland on Feb. 14, 1946, in Walnut Springs. Ruthy was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a loving and caring wife and companion. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be missed by all. She now resides in heaven to help God paint his paradise. Ruthy was a proud grandmother of five, as well as five great-grandchildren, and had many nieces and nephews. She was an accomplished western and wildlife artist who was active in her church, her last painting being presented to The Lord's Acre for charity auction. Survivors: Husband of 60 years, B.C. "Slats" Freeland of Joshua; sons, Terry Freeland and wife, Jill, of Bowling Green, Ky., Carroll Freeland and wife, Corrine, of Ocklawaha, Fla., and Kris Freeland of Fort Worth; daughter, Pamela Jo Walker of Burleson; and sister, Louise Henderson of Stephenville.
