Lillie Mae Simpson Logan

d. February 26, 2011

CROWLEY -- Lillie Mae Simpson Logan went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at the age of 82 after a long illness. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Christ Church, 5301 Altamesa Blvd., Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to ACH Child and Family Services, 1424 Summit Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76102. She was born to Thaddeus and Bertie Simpson on Oct. 18, 1928, in Bunger. She was the youngest of 11 children, who all preceded her in death. She attended Howard Payne University, graduating with a degree in education. She then attended the University of North Texas and finished her master's in education at the University of Colorado. She taught in the Fort Worth Independent School District for 15 years, many of them at McLean and Forest Oak middle schools. She was the head of the English department, the cheerleading sponsor and girls' basketball coach and also a driver's education teacher. After retiring from teaching, she began her own business in her garage in Fort Worth. Her company, The Logan Co., made ceramic plaques and her business grew to seven plants and 150 employees by the early 1970s. Her company expanded into several lines, including The Master Bath (bath decor), The Master's Touch (a religious line) and also included her own line of greeting cards, which she wrote all of the poems for; Hallmark card company offered to purchase her poems but she turned it down. She was a hardy and feisty woman; even after she retired from her main company, she continued to sell her plaques to local hospital gift shops, crafting them herself and loading them into her "salesman's" bag and personally visiting with the gift buyers to make her sales. She continued this practice until the age of 79. She had a passion for writing and a gift from God. Many people sought her out to write poems for eulogies for their loved ones. She wrote from her heart and, as she said, God led her. Mrs. Logan was an honest businesswoman who was kind to her employees and did whatever she needed to help them in any way. Survivors: Daughter, Gina Logan Hernandez of Crowley; granddaughter, Jordan Hernandez and fiance, Daniel Crawley, of Crowley; sister-in-law, Lucille Simpson of Lubbock; sister-in-law, Lorena Simpson of Austin; and many nieces and nephews.
