Louie Mcbroom

December 17, 1926 — January 8, 2025

Louie Ray McBroom was born December 17, 1926 in Abbott, Texas to Isaac and Ada (Eudy) McBroom.  He passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 in Burleson, Texas where he had lived since May of 2024.

Louie grew up in Hill County, Tx and graduated from Bynum High School in 1944.  He enlisted in the Army in May of 1944 and began active duty in February of 1945 serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign.

Louie was a longtime member of the American Legion, Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460 in Castroville, Tx.  He was a Master Mason for almost 70 years and 65 years a 32⁰ endowed member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

Louie met the love of his life, Freeda West, in Snyder, Texas and they married January 2, 1949.  They most recently resided in Castroville, Texas and enjoyed many years leaving their mark on the city and in the hearts of their friends.  He and Freeda also enjoyed a seasonal home in Ruidoso, New Mexico for many years and traveled there when the Texas heat was too much.

Louie worked for Santa Fe Railroad and he also had 30 years of service with American Airlines.  Because of those years with American, they were able to enjoy many adventures and they visited many beautiful places around the world.  He enjoyed telling stories about those adventures.

Louie had hobbies he loved.  One being his property on the Medina River.  He enjoyed fishing or just sitting in the quiet, serene setting that he and his good friend Billy maintained.  His greatest giftedness was the work he did making segmented wooden bowls in his shop.   He did beautiful work and they are a treasure for us to enjoy for years to come .

Louie loved his family and friends and was a kind and thoughtful man who was loved and will be missed by many.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Ada McBroom, brother Clifford “Buster” McBroom, sister Vera Hubbard, sister Ura Markum, brother WJ McBroom, son Kenneth Paul McBroom and wife Freeda (West) McBroom.

He is survived by a niece Wardene Yeaman and husband Don of Burleson, Tx, niece Alice Ann Rhoades of Joshua, Tx, niece Anita Kay White of Kerrville, Tx, as well as great nieces, great nephews, their children and grandchildren.

Our Louie will forever be in our hearts.
