BURLESON -- Madeline Carol Smithson, 63, of Burleson, a school teacher for Joshua High School, died Monday Feb. 4, 2008, at her residence in Burleson. Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday in Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial: Caddo Cemetery in Joshua. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joshua High School Scholarship Fund, care of Toni Landers, In memory of Madeline Smithson, or to Mission Hospice of Cleburne. Madeline was born May 18, 1944, in Watseka, Ill., to Lloyd and Clara Houser Pence. She married Harold Edwin Smithson on March 16, 1963, in Fort Worth. She was a member of Prairie Vista Baptist Church in Godley. She was very active in Cub Scouts, football, and was den mother of Pack 618 for many years. Her passion in life was kids, and that's what her life was about. She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara L. Hamilton; father, Lloyd Pence; and a sister, Shelby Schmidt. Survivors: Husband, Harold E. Smithson; sons, Russell S. Smithson and wife, Nuht, Brian S. Smithson and wife, Angela; brothers, Darrell Pence and wife, Jane, Arthur E. Schmidt and wife, Mary; sisters, Ramona Ross and husband, Bobby, Debra Kennedy and husband, Ron, Roxann Barfield and husband, Dale Tidwell, Janine Little and husband, Jesse; grandchildren, Cassie, Colby, Larissa and Tiffany; 14 nieces and nephews; and 25 great-nieces and great-nephews.
