BURLESON -- Marie McMath, 87, of Burleson, a retired school teacher, died Tuesday Jan. 8, 2008, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at Burleson Church of Christ. Burial: Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Marie was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Denton to William L. and Mattie Lora Marshall Egan. She married James Gordon McMath on June 29, 1943, in Walla Walla, Wash. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who gave her family much love and wisdom throughout her life. She was a member of Burleson Church of Christ. She loved reading, bird watching, painting, and ceramics. She was past superintendent of the Brownwood State School for Girls, a former member of Delta Cappa Gamma, and Zeta Gathian. She touched the lives of many students and was loved by all who knew her. She was a lifelong democrat, best friend to her children, and taught them well how to shop. She was happiest surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors: Son, James McMath II and wife, Nancy, of Burleson; daughters, Mary Schaule and Paul Wethington of Burleson, Patricia Gomez and husband, Tony, of Burleson, Susan Platt and husband, Reg, of Dallas; sisters, Lucille Worley of Burleson, Oretha Matsler of Arlington; grandchildren, Jodi Wise, William Schaule and wife, Leah, Becky McMath, Jimmy McMath, Cody McMath, Moses Gomez, Lindi Gomez; and eight great-grandchildren.
