Mary Ellen Norris, 89, long time resident of Burleson passed away on Sunday March 1, 2015. Service: 10:30 AM Friday, March 6, 2015 First United Methodist Church of Burleson. Internment: Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation: 8am-5pm Thursday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Mary was born November 12, 1925 in Snyder, Texas. She had been residing in Altus, Oklahoma since August 2014 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. As a young child her family moved to the Valley View community west of Wichita Falls where she was raised on a cotton farm. Mary was a 1943 graduate of Valley View High School. Shortly after World War II, while working at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, she met the love of her life, Lt. Loy R. Norris. She spent the next 25 years accompanying Loy to various military assignments around the world. In 1971 they returned to Loy's hometown of Burleson, Texas. They became active in many civic and community endeavors. She was a strong supporter of the Burleson Chamber of Commerce for many years and active in the Johnson County Republican Women. Mary was a long time member of the Burleson Historical Foundation and leaves behind many friends there. She was a member and past president of the Eumathian Club and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Burleson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Loy Norris, parents Wiley and Jerolene Bishop, brothers, Carl and George, and sister, LaVermo Ellis. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law James and Opal Norris of Altus, OK; her granddaughter Alyssa and husband Geoff Johnston of Richardson, TX; and her great grandson Brock Bishop Johnston.
