BURLESON -- Mattie L. Lemons, 94, of Burleson passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 5, 2016. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Burleson, with Dr. Mike Milburn officiating. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 9 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Troy Smith Scholarship Fund at the National Bank of Texas, P.O. Box 1869, Burleson, Texas, 76097. Mattie and her twin sister, Maggie, were born to Della and Forrest Chambers on July 11, 1922. She grew up and attended school in the Sydney and Comanche area. She married Edwin Lemons on Aug. 16, 1938. After she raised five children, Mattie worked for a number of years as a Newcomer hostess welcoming new people who moved to Fort Worth. She was an excellent cook and her children and grandchildren loved her homemade cinnamon rolls. She had many hobbies, including sewing, ceramics and embroidery. For a number of years, she embroidered tablecloths for many brides at First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Edwin Lemons; 11 siblings; and one grandson, Troy Smith, in June 2016. Survivors: Daughters, Jo Ann Smith Haedge (Roland), Jan Lane (Keith), Linda Cobb (Ed) and Debbie Childress; son, Larry Lemons (Judy); 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, family and friends.
