She graduated from Burleson High School in 1970. She attended North Texas State University where she met her husband, Dr. Gene T. DeWitt, and eventually settled in her hometown of Burleson. There they raised their family and developed many long and lasting friendships. Melanie's real passion was her family. All events and occasions centered around family. Be it birthdays, holidays or ski trips, they always revolved around family and her treasured friends. Melanie's truest passion was being a mother and wife. Even as sickness intruded into her life she remained the cornerstone of her family. Throughout the duration of her illness, she amazed all of those who met her and cared for her with her tremendous sense of hope and passion for life. We deeply appreciate the kindness and care Melanie and our family recieved from her physicians, Dr. Mark Redrow and Dr. Joyce O'shaunessy, and their staffs at Texas Oncology. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Silas Mercer Sr.; mother, Faye Parks Mercer; and a loving niece, Patty Mercer.
