Michael Ray Morgan, 73, passed away Jan. 24, 2022 in Fort Worth. He was born March 8, 1947, in Cleburne, the son of Everett Ray and Faye Morgan.
He was a 1965 graduate of Joshua High School where he played football and basketball and ran track.
Mike enjoyed listening, watching and reading about sports, especially the Texas Rangers. He enjoyed shooting pool and also had worked on restoring a 1953 Chevy, a project son Chris has taken over.
Self-employed in the construction business, he did the tractor work for many residential homesites.
Rick said his dad was a simple man who cared nothing for material things. He enjoyed swapping stories over coffee at local cafes, especially the Chisholm Café in Godley. Hamburgers were a favorite meal.
“My dad was always there when my brother and I were growing up. He might go to work at 3 in the morning in order to get off by 1 so he could show up at some random game or track meet or football practice. He coached us in Little League,” Rick said. “He was just very supportive.”
For 35 years, Mike served as chief of the Joshua Volunteer Fire Department, devoting a lot of time to that endeavor. He and two other firemen were burned, one fatally, in a 1984 fire in the county.
He lived in Joshua, then in Godley for about 20 years before his health began to decline due to congestive heart failure and he moved to Burleson to live with Chris.
Mike was a member of Joshua Baptist Church.
He is survived by his two sons – Chris with wife Stacey and sons Dillon, Dawson and Luke and Rick and his son Landon. Michael enjoyed watching his grandsons’ games.
