Miroslava Mildred Becka Bevan died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in Burleson at age 93. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Burleson. Interment: 3 p.m. in Seaton Cemetery, Seaton. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Grandsons, Steve and David Maxwell, John Carroll and Jason Woodward, and family friend, Michael Slovak. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Baptist Church Burleson, Win Oakes Easter Offering, or Burleson Pregnancy Aid Center. She was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Bell County on the family farm, the daughter of Czech immigrants Jaroslav and Frances Becka. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1934, attended Temple Junior College and Texas A&M, where she met her husband, David, whom she married July 25, 1937. She received her BA from Mary Hardin-Baylor University and her MA in science education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. She taught for 32 years in high school and college, retiring from Odessa College in 1976. She moved to a farm with David in southern Oklahoma, where she raised a garden and canned food for her family to enjoy until 1987, when they moved to Burleson. After David's death in 1989, Mildred began volunteering in the community. She logged over 5,500 hours in service to Huguley Hospital. She made a mission trip to Australia in 1996 and was an inspiration to all who accompanied her. She loved her family, her Lord Jesus, and studying His Word, faithfully teaching a Sunday school class for many years. She was a 32-year breast cancer survivor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, David; grandson, Richard Maxwell; and brother, John Becka. Survivors: Daughters, Gwen Maxwell and Glenna Fowler and husband, David; brother, Jerry Becka; grandchildren, Cynthia Maxwell, Steve and Nancy Maxwell, David and Melissa Maxwell, John Carroll and Tracy, Amy and Jason Woodward; great-grandchildren, Drew and Trever Carroll, Tiffany, Charlie, Caitlyn, Erin, Cooper and Christopher Maxwell, and Sarah and Rebekah Woodward; great-great-grandchildren, Makaylah and Dylanp; and extended family and church family.
