Ola Vee Morgan, of Crowley Texas passed away, Saturday, January 22, 2022. Ola was born April 30, 1917, to Edward Zachariah (Bud) and Sadie Hutchins of Alba, Texas. Ola was raised in the Church of Christ Church where she was a lifetime active member assisting those inside and outside of her congregation. Ola lived her last years of life sharing the love of God as a member of the Burleson Church of Christ, Burleson, Texas.
At the age of 23, Ola graduated from Dr. E.P. Becton’s Hospital Nursing Program in Greenville, Texas. She held many positions in her 40-year nursing career as a private duty and acute nurse which included caring for Soldiers of WWII. Ola also shared her talents as a seamstress, sewing ballet outfits for Margot Dean School of Ballet and as a pastry Chef where she baked and assembled wedding cakes and made desserts for the local elementary school. Ola continued to work and eventually retired from Acushnet, where she proudly worked the machine to make Football Kicking Tees and Titlist Golf Balls. After retirement, Ola became an active member in the Crowley Neighborhood Crime Watch and was often seen dropping off pies and goodies to the local Crowley Fire and Police Department.
Ola is preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Sadie Hutchins, 1 brother - ED Hutchins and 5 sisters – Little Sister Hutchins, Mabel Eads, Trixie McKenzie, Bonnie Eads and Ara Brown.
Ola is survived by her four daughters - Pat LeJeune and husband Frank (Crowley, TX); Mary Lynn Jacobs, (Mansfield, TX); Gladys Rinehart, (Crowley, TX), Nancy Morgan, (Alba, TX), her 2 brothers Mack Hutchins (Mae) and Johnnie Hutchins, both of Alba, TX, 7 Grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren who know her as “Maw”.
Ola lived a long-life of 104 years which allowed her to have many loves, in no order. One would always see Ola with her black coffee & honey to kick start her day. As for family, she would be the first to tell you she lived for her family, she loved her family, and loved attending family events – birthdays, holidays, and special events or just a quick lunch/dinner date. She loved to take drives off the beaten path and enjoy the scenery, with a story to go along with the ride or jump on a plane for new adventures. Ola had an overwhelmingly love for sewing and quilting which she shared making baby quilts for each great and great-great grandchild. Ola had a “green thumb” when it came to growing vegetables, fruit, flowers, and cotton. She was also a foody, loving her Mexican, Italian, and southern favorite, beans, greens, and cornbread. Ola was teased for many years about her daily shot of Apple Cider Vinegar, which she would tell you was one of her secrets to living an active vibrant 104 years. In fact, this past year she completed 4 baby quilts, was interviewed by a major company celebrating Nurse’s week, continued her weekly visits to the beauty shop, and continued to watch her favorite TV shows like General Hospital and Saturday Night Live. Her contagious smile and energy to live life to the fullest is an inspiration to us all.
