Oren E. Potter Sr., 83, of Topeka, Kan., passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, in Topeka, Kan.Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Thursday in Caddo Cemetery, Joshua. Oren will lie in state at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Burleson from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. Oren was born May 4, 1924, in Joshua, the son of Percy and Minnie Seal Potter. He grew up in the Joshua and Brandon areas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for 38 years for Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1984 as supervisor of work equipment of the Eastern Lines. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and the Santa Fe Old Timers in Topeka. Oren married Betty J. Sumrall on July 18, 1947, in Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors: Wife, Betty J. Potter of the family home; sons, Oren E. Potter II and wife, Sue of Dalhart, Bill Potter and wife, Barbara of Mesquite; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
