Phillip H Burns

Phillip H. Burns, 81, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Burleson Memorial Cemetery, 490 Memorial Plaza, Burleson, Texas.

Phil was born in Paris, Texas, the first child of E.B. Burns, Jr. and Iris Tunnell Burns. He lived in several other Texas towns before his family moved to Burleson when he was 13 years old. He graduated from Burleson High School and attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, Texas.

He was a lifelong musician, working as a professional drummer for more than 40 years while also working in advertising sales and small business ventures. After retirement, he found real purpose and pride in working as a companion caregiver. Always a good athlete, he derived great enjoyment and satisfaction playing on senior softball teams, and playing ping-pong with his best friend of 62 years, Toby Darnell. But most of all, he was thankful for his family, who were the source of his greatest joy.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lynne Burns; daughter Alice Holcomb (David) of Arlington and their daughters Jillian Roper (Travis) and Lily Holcomb; son Shaun Burns (Shannon) of Benbrook and their sons Slaton and Stinson Burns; step-daughter Laura Allen (Platt) of Fort Worth and children Gage and Marigrace Lado; step-son Tim Ezell (Kim) of St. Louis, Missouri, and children Halle, Lexi, and Andrew Ezell; sisters Rebecca Darnell (Toby) of Houston, and Mary-margaret Belota of Burleson. He is also survived by three nieces, nine great-nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

Phil was loved dearly, and he will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army or any organization that fights hunger and homelessness.
