Phillip Lee Hyder, born on July 22, 1947 in Cleburne, Tx to Phillip Clayton and Zeleth (Peacher) Hyder, passed away Monday morning, October 28, 2024 after a yearlong battle with Stage 4 lung and brain cancer.
Phil, as he was known to his friends and family, grew up in Blum, Tx with his parents and brother Eddie. He joined the United States Air Force in 1966 where he served in Thailand during the Vietnam War as a Crew Chief on B-52 bombers as part of Strategic Air Command. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant before leaving the Air Force in 1970. In 1975 he joined the Fort Worth Police Department. He served the City of Fort Worth as a patrolman and Hit and Run detective for 26 years until his retirement in 2001. He then joined the Texas Christian University Police Department where he served until he retired in 2013 for a second time to become a full time "Paw Paw" and spend time traveling the World with his wife and closest friends.
Phil was a loving and thoughtful husband to his wife of 42 years, Theresa Hyder; a dedicated father to his sons, Blake and Phillip, who both followed in his footsteps as police officers; and a committed and selfless Paw Paw to his grandchildren Olivia, Benjamin, and Charlotte. He dedicated his life to helping others and would drop everything he was doing to help anyone he thought was in need, which gained him the nickname "Helpful Hyder" during his police career. His sarcastic sense of humor and smile brought laughter and joy to everyone he knew, and his loyalty to his friends was unrivaled. Later in life he was energized in his new role as a grandfather, regularly taking them and picking them up at school and daycare, babysitting them morning and night, and attending all of their sports and school events without fail.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Clayton and Zeleth Hyder, and his brother Eddie Hyder.
He is survived by his wife Theresa Hyder, and two sons.
Blake Hyder and wife Rebecca, and their children Olivia and Benjamin of Aledo, Tx
Phillip Hyder and his wife Nidya, and their daughter Charlotte of Fort Worth, Tx
Phil will be profoundly missed by those who loved him with a contentment that he has been made whole again in Heaven by his Savior, Jesus Christ.
